Happy Cows

Over the past weekend I spent some time with my sister and she told me about a great little investment she's making that made me green with envy. She bought a quarter of a cow. It's a grass-fed cow already cut up and ready for the freezer... a big freezer. She also had to buy a stand alone freezer to accommodate all the meat she bought. But in my opinion it is well worth it. The meat ended up being about $5/lb. Where can you get organic, grass-fed beef for that much money? Directly from the farmer, that's where. It's a combination of steaks, ground meat, and the rest can be used for roasts and the such. It also has the added benefit of being environmentally friendly as it comes from a local farmer. Not to mention the fact that you are supporting a local business.

We really don't even eat all that much meat, but because of the quality of the meat it can last up to a year in the freezer. I think we could handle that. Unfortunately, it is not something I can do. We don't have any room for an extra freezer nor do we have any local farms... Yet another reason to move out of SoFla. I plan to do some more research to see if any of these places offer the same kinda deal for chickens, but I can imagine it would be a lot more expensive. If you are at all interested in this kinda thing, you can find out more about it.

This is great-- My parents do this and you would not believe how good the meat is! The ground beef has almost no fat and you dont even have to drain grease from it when you brown it. And the steaks are better even though they have been frozen than any you can get at the store! BTW, we have checked into it up here...another reason you should just move to Pensacola!
