Dulce de Awesome

Have you ever tried to make Dulce de Leche? It is the easiest and most awesome tasting thing ever! It was in a pie that Chris made me and he decided that everything in the pie must be made from scratch including the dulce de leche. This just seemed like it would be a daunting task, but it was probably the easiest part of the pie. I highly recommend making this and putting it over some vanilla ice cream or just taking a spoon and eating all by its lonesome.

You will need: Can of condensed milk, hammer, and a nail.

What you do: Make two holes on the top of the can of condensed mild with the hammer and nail.

Place the condensed milk can in a pot of boiling water for 4 hours, making sure to replenish the water if it starts to evaporate.

And that's it! Done! And you should come out with something that looks like this...

Yummmmmm!

My First Herb Garden

I have wanted to grow my own herbs for years now, but I have never had the space to do it. As luck would have it, Nancy has the perfect little empty plot of garden space in her front yard and she so graciously gave me permission to use it! I decided to buy both seeds and already sprouting herbs and see what works best. I got some rosemary, basil, and thyme that was already well on its way and got seeds for cilantro, more basil, and some peppers. I planted the seeds a week ago and would you believe I already seem some little baby herbs starting to emerge! I will have to wait and see on the peppers though- as they take a little longer.

The whole thing is a bit experimental, but I have already used some of "my" herbs. It is so satisfying to walk out into your front yard and pluck some basil right off the plant whenever you need it.

April Fools! The Easter Bunny's Not Dead!

Check out this morbid knitted bunny on Etsy. I just love that the description tells the dramatic tale of the bravery and then subsequent death of the bunny only to follow with "Ships for FREE!!! YAY!".

Rapper or Faker?

So I am sure we have all heard about the odd behavior of Joaquin Phoenix lately and if you haven't just watch this. I personally think it is all a hoax and just a publicity stunt to get people interested in what he is doing. Apparently, Casey Affleck is his brother-in-law and is taping a documentary on Phoenix's journey from actor to "rapper". I think it will most likely turn out to be more like a mockumentary, kinda like Spinal Tap with more of a reality edge to it. Another thing that makes me believe this? This past weekend, he did a concert in Miami and got into an altercation with a heckler in the crowd. Even though he was dragged off by security, the police weren't called and no arrests were made. To me, that just sounds like perhaps the heckler was a setup? I don't know- but if he really is this wacked out, I am both sad and disappointed in him. Not that he cares. Also, he is really really bad at hip-hop. You can see the video about the altercation and read the story here.

I See Myself as More of a Geek

My brother recently lent Chris and I the first season of Freaks and Geeks on DVD. It took a few weeks for us to start it, but we have spent the last few nights diving in. I must say that I ADORE it. It is so funny and brilliant. This show is how the Apatow gang came to be in existence. It stars some of my favorite people, such as: James Franco (cutie), Seth Rogan, and that guy from "How I Met Your Mother" and "Forgetting Sarah Marshall".

It does such a great job of showing the complexities of the parent/child relationship as well as the awkward "finding yourself" feeling of high school. And it is incredibly witty to boot. I can't get enough of it and it wasn't until after we started watching the series that I found out it was canceled after one season. I know I am late in saying this, but... BOOOOOO. What is it with FOX canceling great shows? First "Arrested Develeopment" (RIP) and now this. Although, this did happen a few years before Arrested Development, it doesn't make it sting any less. So now I will have to watch each of these episodes slowly and with much appreciation. Because there isn't nearly enough to satisfy me.
